66685 - Metallurgy with Exercises

Academic Year 2017/2018

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Industrial Chemistry (cod. 8513)

Learning outcomes

The course aims at discussing the basic criteria for microstructural and mechanical characterization of metals and alloys. The main learning objectives are:

  • how to select metallic materials for producing mechanical components working in a given service condition
  • how to identify the most appropriate heat treatments for improving metal performance and reliability
  • how to identify the reason for malfunctioning related to material features by means of the main microstructural, fractographic and mechanical characterization techniques for metals and alloys.

Course contents

Prerequisites

  • Basic mathematics skills (differential equation, integral calculus)
  • Basic concepts of physics (forces, thermodynamic etc.)
  • Basic chemistry principles
  • Phase diagrams
