Academic Year 2017/2018

  • Docente: Rita Fioresi
  • Credits: 10
  • SSD: MAT/03
  • Language: Italian
  • Moduli: Rita Fioresi (Modulo 1) Davide Aliffi (Modulo 2)
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures (Modulo 1) Traditional lectures (Modulo 2)
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Physics (cod. 8007)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student knows the theory of vector spaces (real and complex) of finite dimension and linear application. He acquires the fundamental notions of analytic geometry in two and three dimensional space. In particular the student can solve linear system, find eigenvalues and eigenvectors, diagonalize real symmetric and complex hermitian matrices, solve simple problems of geometry.

Course contents

Vector spaces, linear maps, completion theorem, dimension theorem, spectral theorem. Scalar products and hermitian products.

Readings/Bibliography

Algebra Lineare, Lang, ed. Boringhieri.

Teaching methods

Lectures in class.

Assessment methods

The exam is written and oral. The written examination is three hours long and consists in the solution of 4 to 6 exercises. The exercises may also contain a theoretical part. To get to the oral examination is necessary a grade of 18/30 or above.
