Learning outcomes

Objectives of the corse

To provide fundamental mathematical elements to understand other classes, in particular physical ones and  to describe geological systems and processes.

Prerequisities

equations and inequations, trigonometric functions

Course contents

Mentions: sets, real and complex numbers, trigonometric functions, linear and second degree equations and inequalities (chap. 3, par. 6, 7, 10, 12), exponential and logarithmic functions (chap. 8, par. 11).

Analysis elements: limit, continuity (chap. 6, par. 1-22, terms 23-25 e 28-29, 31), infinitesimal and infinity. Derivative and its rules, Hospital theorem, graph of function (chap. 7, par. 1-13).

Riemann Integration by parts and by change of variable rule (chap. 8, par. 1-10, 16, 19).

Analysis complement: two variables functions: partial derivative, maxima and minima, saddle point, integration. (chap. 7, par. 14-16, cap. 8, par. 21). Differential equation. (chap. 10, par. 1,2,7 for n=2)

Linear algebra elements (chap. 5): matrix (def. pag. 171, par. 23) , determinant (par. 24), simultaneous linear equations (par. 25-26).

Geometry elements (chap. 5): euclidean plane (par. 1-12, example 5 pag. 175) and space geometry (par. 13-21).
