In the wake of the multidisciplinary tradition of European political studies, 45 scholars are associated with the Department belonging to the fields political history and political doctrine, political philosophy and political science, public and international rights.
The Department has a strong tradition of research in the history of political concepts (Begriffsgeschichte) and of constitutional history (Verfassungsgeschichte), as well as in comparative European politics history, and in international relations and comparative politics and in political studies of the area. The Department houses five scientific journals and three Masters programmes.
