Fruit Tree and Woody Plant Sciences
The Department of Fruit Tree and Woody Plant Sciences (Director, Professor Silviero Sansavini) is involved with woody plants and fruit trees.
It consists of 19 instructors and another 50 collaborators (doctoral students, study grant holders, research grant holders, etc.) active in four discipline sectors (Fruit Tree Culture, Horticulture, Genetics and Biotechnology, and Forest Studies).
The fundamental disciplines, all biological, are composed from physiology, ecology, genetics, pomology, biotechnology and molecular biology, ecosystems, agricultural-environmental management, urban parks and landscape planning.
The Department has a dozen laboratories (in Viale Fain 46, 48 and at Cadriano, Via Gandolfi 19), and a corporate body of 54 that is internally employed in experimental arbor tree culture (fruit and vines), a conservatory and screenhouse centre, as well as relative services (phytotrons and cells of acclimatisation, frozen cells, propagation beds and nursery facilities).
