Classical and Medieval Philology
Greek, Latin, the Judeo-Christian and Medieval and Humanistic traditions are the areas of research of the Department of Classical and Medieval Philolophy.
The Department houses a library of 65.000 volumes, with an avant-garde computer structure in the sector of Ancient History (research laboratories, interactive web pages, on-line instruction), and a collection of prestigious international journals (such as "Eiksmós").
In addition, there is a Study Centre "the permanence of the Classic," which is active as much in scientific research (with particular regard to the reception of the ancients, translations of authors, and to the fundamental language concerns in the classical tradition) as on the plane of the vigorous task involved with the debate over scholastic reform and the diffusion of the classics by means of presentations and public lectures.
With an eye towards the roots of western civilisation and an eye to the present: for, as Petrarch said, "ante retroque prospiciens".
