Mechanical, Nuclear, Aviation, and Metallurgical Engineering - DIEM

DIEM was born on November 4th 1986 as the outcome of the merge between three former Institutes of Mechanics of Machines, Machine Design and Mechanical Technology, Metallurgy. Then the Institutes of Energy System and Components and Industrial Plants joined DIEM.

The Department DIEM is devoted to fundamental research on industrial mechanical fields. It is one of several such structure in the University of Bologna Faculty of Engineering in which faculty members work together to secure outside funds for research projects, advise graduate students, report on their work to the profession, and develop courses and textbooks based on their activities.
Teaching is occupying a central role in DIEM mission: the DIEM staff is in charge of several courses at both the two Engineering Faculties of University of Bologna. The research and educational activities at DIEM involve: Aerodynamics and Fluid Dynamics, Aeronautical Design, Machine Design, Physic of Nuclear Reactors, Technical Drawing and CAD in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical and Nuclear Plants, Aerospace Systems, Energy Systems and Power Plants, Manufacturing Technology, Internal Combustion Engine control and thermo-fluid dynamics, Mechanics of Machine, Industrial Plants and Logistics.
