Moving In&About

The city of Forlì offers a wide range of public transport for citizens and students at a very cheap cost if compared to other EU countries. But the easiest means of transport is certainly the bike.

By bike
To move in and about the city of Forlì, the bicycle is the first solution! Though the city can not be compared to Ferrara in the number of bikeways, the cheapest and healthiest means of transport in Forlì is undoubtedly the bicycle, especially when moving across the city centre, from one classroom to another. Students can buy second-hand bicycles in many cycle shops or can simply look for a bargain by word of mouth.

On the other hand, if compared to other cities, Forlì is "a cut above" in terms of cycle transport, thanks to the new service denominated "Pedala la Città" ("Let’s pedal across the city"), a sort of bike sharing service for the citizen. In different strategic points of the city (near the station, for example) and generally in the proximity of car parks, 16 to 24 bicycles are deposited under an automatic system of control and distribution. To collect a bicycle, you just need to have the special electronic card, the "bicichip", available for those who want to move freely across the city. If you want the ‘bicichip’ to hire the bicycles deposited in one of the three cycle parks, you must apply to the Punto Bus ATR (bus station) in Via Volta 1, or to the Ufficio Sosta ATR in Via Lombardini 2. Here you are asked to fill a form and to pay a deposit of 25 €, which is soon returned to you when you give your card back. This innovative service, an example of good Municipal governance, is also recommended for those who arrive by train or by car from the neighbouring locations.

By bus
In winter, the bus service is certainly recommendable. Students can buy monthly and annual tickets at low costs (www.atr-online.it). When you plan to go for longer journeys, local buses and coaches are especially recommended to visit the inland territory and are much more comfortable and cheaper than trains.

The airport
Forlì can also boast a very functional airport, where students can buy low-cost airfares and leave for different European cities. Recently, other national airlines have arrived in Forlì, flying to other Italian locations, especially to the islands. Better have a look at the timetable from time to time! At just 10 minutes from the city centre, the airport is serviced by bus every 15 minutes (at a cost of just 2.5 €). This new transport facility has deeply changed the life of the city and the flux of people is gradually increasing from year to year, including the number of visitors and tourists taking a stroll in the city.
