Knowledge & Culture

The University has represented a wave of renewal for the city, though it had already an intense cultural activity. Before the arrival of the university, Forlì was probably too isolated and centred on itself and on its tradition.

Today local culture is still alive and the arrival of so many young people from outside has created the conditions for a new cultural and social mixture. On the one hand, this cultural mixture has opened the city to a new academic dimension and to a continuous cultural renewal while, on the other, it has made it possible to bring out and to spread events and local traditions beyond the provincial territory, creating new forms of events, within a European context.

The constant dialogue between the city and the University has attracted in Forlì important persons (such as Carla Del Ponte) from the international context (e.g., the convention of the Association of Studies on Nationalities of 2001 has gathered together in Forlì more than 400 world renown scholars and university teachers) and great international events, such as the Human Rights Nights, the International Festival of Human Rights Films, which has thrown the city into this international festival context. Among the other great events, the initiative "Teatri della Pace" (Theatres of Peace), a program of cultural events started on March with the photographic exhibition entitled "Genti di Dio" (Peoples of God), edited by the Polish photographer Monika Bulaj, and many other events, such as the "Teatro delle Marionette" (the Puppets Theatre), classical music concerts and avant-guard theatre…

If added to the cultural offer represented by the local Museums, Libraries, the Theatre season and the Concerts, these events make the cultural scene in Forlì very rich and varied, strategically stretching from the national production to the local specialized cultural activities. This allows to experiment new solutions and, above all, to continue the dialogue between international and national interlocutors.
