The places where you can find amusement, great events, and the pleasures of local gastronomy are numerous and all incorporated into the "fabric" of the city.
As in many other cities and towns lying in the friendly land of Romagna, if you ask for something to drink, the first thing they bring to you will be a glass of wine – this is the big difference with the not-too-far Emilia! The places where you can find amusement, great events, and the pleasures of local gastronomy are numerous and all incorporated into the "fabric" of the city.
Theatres are equally so many and it is not so unusual that they stage "the first nights" of comedies, vanguard or classical plays. But do you need a bit of advice? Have a quick look at the program of Teatro Diego Fabbri, it often offers real rarities!
If theatre plays a part in the life of Forlì, music has undoubtedly a leading role. As a matter of fact, aren’t we in the realm of the "balera", the typical open-air dancing hall of Romagna? Isn’t this the homeland of Raul Casadei, the most famous Italian folk singer? To make it simple, music is the fundamental element if you really want to discover this city. Yet it is also true that people don’t only like folk dance music, especially if they are young! And discos are not the only pleasure of life! Staying in Forlì, you can simply listen to music, but also dance or even make it! From the refined jazz sound of Caffé della Borsa Winebar to the rock music of Naima Club, Forlì offers a wide variety of music genres. It also hosts numerous young bands who regularly meet to play music in the small music halls offered by the Municipality for their training.
But the importance of music for the city is above all evidenced by the numerous bands and singers who have born here or who have decided to start from here to make their hobby a profession. Well, not all of you probably know that Forlì has churned out real music stars at a national level, and not only: Alice, Michele Centonze (see also the chapter LIVING), and…bands such as the Montefiori Cocktail, the so-called Gemelli (the Twins) of Italian lounge, who are the descendants of a true "clan of musicians" who has revised local folk music with lounge and funky rhythms, long before these became so trendy. And they have exported their music and these rhythms all across the world. Yet, as it is often the case with these "home prides", the Montefiori band is much more "acclaimed" abroad than in their homeland: only a few do know that many pieces of their albums have been used in well-known radio and TV programs, such as the famous U.S. sitcom "Sex and the City", or the Italian TV shows, "Affari Tuoi", "Quelli che il calcio…". So if it happens to you, don’t miss one of their concerts, especially if the guest-star is Germano, their father! Francesco (nicknamed "kekko") and Federico ("kikko") are real "creatures of the stage". They will make you dance until dawn by simply saying: "I know this song….it sounds like this…". Try and see!
