Eating In&Out
Aren’t we in the heart of Romagna, the land of good food and wine? Eating should not be a problem here, but students have usually a limited budget. And having lunch and dinner at the restaurant every day is not certainly an affordable expense!
At present, there is not a refectory in Forlì university, though it is included in the project for the new campus. But we will talk about it in the next edition of the Guidebook! Meanwhile, there are a lot of restaurants, bars and other typologies of catering in the city centre which accept the university luncheon coupons and offer food at a discounted cost. If you don’t like to eat only hot-dogs and the typical piadina, keep an eye on the bars which offer a cheap daily menu or big fresh salads! And also have a look at those bars showing delicacies, appetizers and snacks on their counter at the aperitif time. Maybe a coke or a beer do cost a little more than in other places, but these bars now offer much more than peanuts and chips. You can taste cold dishes, pizza and omelettes in a delightful and young atmosphere.
During the spring and the summer, especially in the weekends, typical festival are regularly organized in the environs of the city. Here you can taste genuine and very cheap food, traditional specialties in a delightful and joyful environment.
Even ethnic food is making its way, meeting the taste of foreign students: not only Chinese food, but also Indian, Turkish, and macrobiotic restaurants are a good alternative. We advise you against those places which offer pre-cooked dishes, which are usually expensive and have no taste! Better a tasteful piadina or a slice of pizza, if you have no other options.
In the evening, you’d better prepare a good dinner at home than dining out. When you go shopping, avoid the too expensive shops and gastronomic boutiques of the town centre, and buy your food at supermarkets or discount-markets, which offer a wide range of products at low cost coming from different countries. To buy fruit and vegetables, why don’t you go to the fruit and vegetable market in the historical centre? Here you can enjoy a delightful atmosphere where you can build up a friendly relationship with your usual vendors – the key factor for saving money.
