Among the jewels of its heritage, one can just mention the
Biblioteca Malatestiana – the first Italian civic library and the only fully preserved example of Renaissance library, wonderful for its architectural structure, its original furnishings, its 340 codices safely locked to the wooden
plutei through finely handmade wrought iron chains.
And also its
Rocca Malatestiana (
Malatesta fortress), one of the most impressive examples in
Romagna, overlooking the city from its hill – from its bays the view extends to the Apennines and to the Adriatic coast resorts; nowadays this site has become an important place for arts exhibitions and public performances.
Artistic and religious monument, the millenary
Abbey of Santa Maria del Monte is famous for its collection of votive offerings and for preserving a valuable painting collection, as well as the statue of the Madonna, devoutly prayed for centuries by Cesena’s citizens. The abbey was built up around the year 1000 and, next to it, a Benedictine monastery was subsequently added. The structure still preserves the original monastery rooms: the Library, the Laboratory for the restoration of antique books, the herbalist’s laboratory, where visitors can buy lenitive preparations, balsamic candies, honey, infusions of herbs, wines. Via S.Benedetto, in the city centre, it is possible to walk up to the Abbey along the nicely cobbled way known as "Via delle Scalette" (road of the small stairs).
In addition to these sites,
Cesena offers other equally valuable artistic examples – monuments, churches, palaces and other ruins contributing to the good quality of life with their beauty.

CULTURAL EVENTS
The Faculty of Architecture promotes cultural activities including temporary exhibitions in the Church of
Spirito Santo, workshops and cycles of conferences on the main themes of contemporary architectural research. All events intend to open a debate among participants, both through the presentation of academic results and by proposing the works of internationally renown architects, who are involved into a discussion about architectural building.
