Curricular traineeships

The curricular traineeship represents an important instrument for the acquisition and direct testing of the methodologies, tools and strategies necessary for applying the acquired academic knowledge and skills in the job market.

All the Faculty degree courses provide for traineeship activities. This work experience is performed outside the University in various organisations/companies that vary according to the student's academic choices.
The various traineeship options can be chosen among the proposals presented by the Faculty, and are regulated by specific agreements.
Alternatively, a study or work experience abroad within the framework of the University exchange programs (Erasmus, Leonardo, etc.) can also be recognised as a traineeship, provided that the training activities meet the Faculty requirements.

General Information on the Traineeships

Here is some general information for students.

The traineeship is an integral part of academic programme both for the first and for the second cycle degree courses.

To apply to the curricular traineeship, the student need to have obtained at least the right number of university credits corresponding to the first academic year in the following exams:

  1. Human anatomy applied to motor activity
  2. Biochemistry
  3. Applied biology
  4. General pedagogy
  5. Human physiology
  6. Theory and methodology of human motion

In addition, students must also have acquired the university credits deriving from the studies which characterise the traineeship which he/she intends to apply for.

The traineeship activities can only be carried out at organisations/companies having an agreement with the University of Bologna. The list of the available host organisations/companies having an agreement with the University of Bologna - Faculty of Physical Education and Sports can be found on the Faculty website: http://www.sm.unibo.it/. The list is constantly kept up-dated.

From the same website you can download the traineeship application form.

During the selection of the application forms and the assignment of the traineeship opportunities, should the number of applications for a specific organisation/company exceed the number of posts available, the Traineeship Commission will apply the following criteria:

  • preferred destinations;
  • alternative preference destinations specified by the student;
  • should there still be an excessive number of applications, the following factors will be taken into consideration:
  1. number of exams taken by the students;
  2. year of first enrolment;
  3. average mark.

The application will be forwarded by sending in the relevant form at least two months before the start of the traineeship and must include a short summary of the planned traineeship activities, as agreed with the coordinator for the host organisation/company.

After filling in the forms as required, the applications must be handed in to Mr. Leonardo Osti, c/o the Faculty Traineeship Office, during the Office’s opening hours:

Mondays to Wednesdays: 8.30-11.00 am and 3.00-4.00 pm;
Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays: 8.30-11.00 am.
The application forms which are incomplete, or have not been signed or handed in on time will be rejected.
The applications for traineeships at organisations/companies that have entered no agreements with this University will not be accepted.

All applications will be examined on a monthly basis by the Traineeship Commission, except during of the holiday month of August.

The records of each Commission's sitting will be published in the Faculty notice board situated in the entrance hall.

At the beginning of the traineeship the student is required to promptly inform Mr. Leonardo Osti c/o the Traineeship Office,  about the starting date and the number of hours relating to the traineeship activities. This information can also be forwarded via e-mail to: leonardo.osti@unibo.it  or by fax (+39 051 2095565).

Once the application has been approved, the student must ask to the Traineeship Office for the logbook where all activities are recorded. The Office is open in the hours mentioned above.

Students are required to comply with the agreement between this University and the host organisation/company. Failure to do so, if signalled by the tutor or by the host organisation coordinator, implies the annulment of the traineeship agreement and the non-recognition of the traineeship activities for graduation purposes.

Any problems arising in the relations with the host organisation/company or due to personal problems must be promptly communicated to the university tutor and to Mr. Leonardo Osti c/o the Traineeship Office..

Any sick-leave or non-attendance must be communicated to the university tutor, to the host organisation/company and to the Faculty Traineeship Office. The non-attendance days/hours can be made up.

At the end of the traineeship period, the student will (within 30 days) hand in to his/her university tutor: a short report (max 2 type-written pages), the diary-booklet with the traineeship activities recorded and duly underwritten by the traineeship coordinator at the host organisation/company, as well as the coordinator's report on the trainee activity and results. Within 30 days of the receipt of the documentation specified here, the university tutor will transmit to his/her final report the Traineeship Commission, enclosing all the documentation.

Once he/she has seen the approval of his/her traineeship activities on the Faculty notice board, the student can go to the relevant teacher with the traineeship slip or certificate (the so-called "statino") and the university exam booklet for the registration of the traineeship. Registration must be carried out during the teacher's tutorial hours and days or after making a phone appointment. At present, the teacher responsible for registration is Prof. Patricia Brasili, President of the Traineeship Commission (tel +39 051 2094193).

For any communications or telephone inquiries, you can turn to the Traineeship Office from 11.00 to 1.00 am - from Mondays to Fridays (Tel n. +39 051 2095558).

Special cases:
If the student intends to carry out the traineeship at an organisation/company that has not entered into an agreement with this University, he/she can tell the organisation/company about the way to enter into contact with the Traineeship Office (Mr. Leonardo Osti), which will then advise on how to start up cooperation with the University for the purposes of the traineeship.

If the student wants to request the recognition of the traineeship credits for a work activity carried out in compliance with the existing Italian legislative provisions relating to traineeship, and in accordance with the academic objectives of this Faculty, he/she can download the special form at the website http://www.sm.unibo.it/ and must forward it to the Traineeship Office, together with the following documents:

  1. Original work contract/agreement in compliance with the existing legislative provisions;
  2. Quantification of the total amount of work (in hours);
