Presentation

The Second Faculty of Engineering of Bologna University was founded as an independent structure in October 2002 as a spin-off of the degree courses of the Faculty of Engineering of Bologna set up in 1991.

The courses taught by the Faculty of Engineering are characterised by a specialisation in top areas such as Biomedical Engineering, Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
The courses taught by the Second Faculty of Engineering are characterised by a specialisation in the top areas of Industrial Engineering and Computer Engineering.
Despite being founded relatively recently the Second Faculty of Engineering is particularly renowned for the high quality of its labs as well as for the good reputation of its Professors and researchers who are often research partners in major national and international programmes.
The overall reduced sizes of this Faculty enhance optimal relationships between lecturers and students while boosting the quality of the teaching services. There are modern labs with top of the range scientific equipment which are available for students to carry out learning activities and cooperate with their Professors in advanced research projects.

As from Academic Year 2006/2007 the established study curriculum will be combined with new, thoroughly updated learning paths adding up to a total of ten different degree courses.  The courses  available at Cesena campus (which specialises in Information Technology) include the first cycle and second cycle Degree Courses in Biomedical Engineering, Telecommunications and Electronic Engineering and Computer Engineering. The courses  available at Forlì campus (which specialises in Industry) include the first cycle and second cycle Degree Courses in Aerospace Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

Students are required to follow classes where they will be provided with the theoretical foundations of both scientific and applicational subjects. Such studies are combined with practical and experimental activities such as internships, training periods and thesis writing in one of a large number of companies and agencies with which a convention has been entered into by the Faculty.

Students have a chance to use the state-of-the-art equipment and labs available outside class hours as well as without assisted training. - some of this equipment is unique in the university scenario throughout Italy.

Typically, Engineering students spend many hours inside the Faculty's structures. Besides following traditional classes, much time is devoted to the exchange of ideas with their fellow students, discussions about specific learning topics, teamwork, work methods,  which often reproduce the typical experiences within real industrial environments.

There are various student associations within our Faculty establishing a link between students and the academic bodies. Such associations are also involved in many extra-curricular initiatives and events such as publishing trade magazines, running film clubs, organising parties, sports tournaments and educational trips to make students' life at university exciting and more stimulating.

The new-style degree courses enable students to finish their training paths in a shorter time than in the past. Students of the Second Faculty of Engineering will acquire an academic qualification and a professional preparation which can be easily applied in the labour market as is shown by the good job placement results of our first and second level graduates.

Many good career opportunities at both the domestic and international levels are offered by the various companies and organisations, research industries and innovation agencies which students may have become acquainted with during their time at university.

The Dean is Prof. Ing. Enrico Sangiorgi
