The Faculty of Arts and Humanities was established in 1860 in the Italian Post-Unification period and it oriented its teaching provision towards the highly traditional literary, philosophical, historical and historical-artistic studies. Eminent scholars and artists of Italian culture have been members of this Faculty (Giosuè Carducci, Giovanni Pascoli, etc.).
Founded in 1860, in the Post-Unification period, the Faculty of Arts and Humanities replaced the Papal University's theological courses and, until recent times, addressed its teaching provision towards the most traditional literary (ancient and modern languages), philosophical, historical and historical-artistic studies.
Eminent scholars and artists of the Italian culture were members of this Faculty and had important roles; among them, it is worth mentioning Giosuè Carducci (who was also Dean of the Faculty), Giovanni Pascoli, Giuseppe Albini, Pericle Ducati, Felice Battaglia, Giovan Battista Pighi, Rodolfo Mondolfo, Francesco Arcangeli, Luigi Heilmann, just to remember a few of the most important scholars of past times.
In more recent times, following the introduction of a series of university reforms, the Faculty has given rise to the establishment of other Schools: in the 1950s, the Faculty of Education and in 1995, the Faculty of Modern Languages and Literatures and the Faculty of Conservation of the Cultural Heritage - Ravenna, which derived from the degree course of the same name in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
Both the highly prestigious Schools of Journalism and the School of Humanities also belong to this Faculty.
The broad network of international relations promoted as part of the Faculty's degree courses offers the students the chance to attend courses at foreign Universities or Schools and to be given full academic recognition for the study period away from the home University.
The Faculty produces high-profile professionals who are capable of entering different working environments.
The teaching staff, supported by important Italian and international visiting teachers, contribute to the high academic and scientific standards that distinguish the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
