Scholarships, aid and benefits offered to students of University of Bologna

University of Bologna offers to its students scholarships, fellowships, and a wide range of aids and benefits.

Scholarships & Fellowships

Students have many excellent opportunities available to them for investing in their future and developing their talents and skills through the various internationally recognised and accredited programmes provided by the University of Bologna.

Benefits for students managed by ERGO (Regional Authority for the Right to Higher Education)

Benefits are generally assigned through a competition notice available on Ergo website. Applications must be made by the deadlines.

Education scholarships: enrolled students that fulfill the merit and financial requirement can apply for education grants. The amount goes from a minimum of € 1.402,53 to a maximum of € 5.073,78 and varies according to the economic conditions of the family unit and the place where the student is resident. Students can ask for a part of the education grant to be converted into credit for the catering service. In that case ER.GO will add an extra amount of 36.36%

Residential service:  The ER.GO residential solutions are split into different types, arrangements, services offered and fees/prices, outlined on the website. Places are assigned on the basis of academic merit and income. Fees vary from 150 to 300 euros per month.

Ergo also provides other benefits for catering, international mobility, disabled  students and loans.

Erasmus Mundus Action 1

Erasmus Mundus aims to enhance quality in higher education through scholarships and academic cooperation between Europe and the rest of the world. The University of Bologna offers a variety of Erasmus Mundus Degree Courses as well as Doctorate Research courses.
The deadline dates for application to the various scholarships and fellowships differ depending on the particular course. In order to be sure of the relevant details regarding course type, content and relevant deadline please be sure to take a complete look at the complete list of courses being offered within the Erasmus Mundus programme.

Erasmus Mundus Action 2– EMA2 Partnerships

The Erasmus Mundus Action 2 is a cooperation and mobility programme in the area of higher education, launched in 2006 by the European Commission. The programme promotes the creation of partnerships between European and third-country Universities. Each partnership offers scholarships for exchanges between EU and non-EU universities.
The funding scheme of the EMA2 programme allows students, researchers, professors and administrative staff of Non-EU University to spend a mobility period in the EU University belonging to the  partnership. The non Eu-Countries involved in the programme are grouped into "geographical windows" (so-called LOTs) according to their location and the regional policies of the EU.
Within the "LOTs" exist several partnerships, each of them composed of a maximum of 20 EU and Non-EU Universities. Student, researcher, professor and administrative staff nationals living in the relevant LOTs can apply for a mobility period in one of the EU university belonging to the partnership.
The amount of the scholarships ranges from 1,000 to 2500 euros according to the different categories.

Study grants for enrolling international students

The University of Bologna makes available annual study grants worth €11,000 gross to international students wishing to enrol in A.Y. 2013-2014. Study grants are awarded on the basis of SAT test results (for students enrolling in First Cycle and Single Cycle Degree Programmes) and GRE test results (for students enrolling in Second Cycle Degree Programmes).

Grants and financial support facilities available from the Collegio Superiore and Institute of Advanced Studies (ISA)

The Institute of Advanced Studies offers:
Fellowships for PhD students (Brains in) that provide them with the opportunity to stay at the Institute premises (In-Residence);
Fellowships for Post Doctoral students (Primary Stage Research Fellowships).
The Collegio Superiore offers a range of grants specific applicable to International students: (The International Competition).

Scholarships Available from the China Association College

The China Association  College offers scholarships (worth up to a total amount of 30.000 euros) to Chinese students who wish to enroll at the University of Bologna.

Doctorate Fellowships for PhD students from the Dominican Republic

In May 2010 the University of Bologna signed a specific agreement with the President of the Dominican Republic to provide for 20 fellowship places for suitable PhD student. The Fellowships are specifically targeted at students from the Dominican Republic who wish to enroll for a Doctorate Course at the University of Bologna. Students can refer to the Embassy or Consulate of the Dominican Republic in Italy in order to get relevant information about the scholarships.

"Invest your talent in Italy" study grants

The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has made available 15 study grants for A.Y. 2013/14 for Indian, Brazilian, Turkish, Colombian and South African students enrolling in Second Cycle Degree Programmes or first and second level Professional Master's Programmes. The grants are worth €700 a month for nine months.
The list of programmes you may apply for is available on the "Invest your talent in Italy" programme website. The rules for presenting applications are published on the websites of the Italian Cultural Institute in Ankara, the Italian Embassy in Brasilia, the Italian Cultural Institute in New Delhi, the Italian Cultural Institute in Bogotá and the Italian Cultural Institute in Pretoria.
Deadline for the presentation of applications: 15 June 2013.
