Marco Polo programme for Chinese Students

Marco Polo is a programme aimed to increase the number of Chinese students enrolled in Italian Universities.

The Programme

Chinese students who wish to enrol at Italian Universities can get a visa even without the required knowledge of the language, provided that they enrol in one of the Italian language courses offered by Italian Universities part of the programme. At the end of the course, which will last six months, the students will reach a B1/B2 level (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
Students who complete the course successfully are allowed to enrol in the chosen Italian University and are exempted from the Italian language proficiency test. For the academic year 2012/2013 the University of Bologna organizes an Italian language course for Chinese students in Modena, in collaboration with the University of Modena e Reggio Emilia.


  • The deadline to apply for pre-enrolment at University for the A.Y. 2011-2012 is the 17th of December. Detailed information is available on MIUR (Ministry of Education, University and Research)
