Useful Information
Residence Card.
The carta di soggiorno, or Residence Card, is a document, which is not fixed with a time limit, that allows a foreigner to reside in Italy.
EU citizens who plan on establishing residency in Italy in order to pursue work or who want to follow a course of study for a period greater than 90 days must request a carta di soggiorno.
The request to obtain the carta di soggiorno for EU citizens must be presented in person at the Questura in the place in which the interested party plans on staying.
The carta di soggiorno is valid for 5 years or for the duration of time which is related to the motives of stay. Renewal is made at the request of the interested party (and is at an undetermined time for those granted for 5 years) each year after the duration of the course of study needed to complete the qualifications for the degree programme. If it is a case of one who works across a national border, the renewal is for another 5 years.
The carta di soggiorno provides personal identification documentation for no more than five years from the date of issue or renewal.
