Laurea Magistrale (Second cycle degree/Two year Master - 120 ECTS)

Procedures and deadlines for enrolment for Laurea Magistrale (Second cycle degree/Two year Master - 120 ECTS) for EU citizens resident anywhere and non-EU citizens with equivalency.

These students are admitted to degree programmes under the same conditions as Italian students. Exams they have to take are those tests required for admission to the chosen study programme: entrance exam for programmes with limited numbers, aptitude tests for certain three-year degree programmes. They do not take the Italian language proficiency exam.

Enrolment

Enrolment for the University of Bologna can be done on-line, by going to the site www.almawelcome.unibo.it, or students can go to one of the several Almawelcome points, where they can find assistance and information.

To be able to use the on-line service, students must get their codice fiscale ( individual tax registration number).
For students abroad, this tax registration number can be applied for at the Italian Embassy-Consulate offices.
For students already in Italy, this tax registration number should be applied for at the local Tax Agency Office.

The student enters personal data on the site and chooses the intended study programme. The system assigns a matriculation number and it is then possible to print the matriculation application. Payment of the first instalment of the registration fee can be made on-line or else at any branch of the UniCredit Bank, by presenting a code downloaded from the AlmaWelcome! programme.

After payment has been made, the student signs the matriculation application and brings it to one of the AlmaWelcome! points together with the documentation listed below.

Upon enrolment, the student will be given the University the badge giving access to University services.

Dates for enrolment deadlines for the academic year 2011/2012 can be found in the appropriate section.

Documentation to be enclosed with the application for enrolment

  • A) Laurea (First cycle degree/Bachelor - 180 ECTS)obtained at any University (European Union citizens can self –authenticated the academic qualification)

    or, alternatively

    B) a post-secondary qualification obtained in a non-university Higher Education Institute allowing for the continuation of the university studies in the subsequent level, but provided that the secondary school diploma was attained after at least a 12-year education (European Union citizens can self –authenticated the post-secondary qualification);
  • certificate released by the relevant academic institution - as duly signed by the diplomatic authority - assessing the passed exams as well as the detailed programmes and time plan devoted to the teaching and laboratory activities provided for each subject area, for the purposes of the qualifications as per letters A) and B);
  • two photographs (of which one must be authenticated by the relevant Italian representation).

Only for Non-Eu citizens with equivalency: copy of residence permit or residence card.

At the Italian diplomatic representation, applicants must require:

  1. the authentication and translation of the first cycle degree certificate (both procedures must be carried out by the Italian diplomatic representation in the Country which the school/university/institute releasing the certificate belongs to);
  2. declaration of legal value for the degree certificate (both procedures must be carried out by the Italian diplomatic representation in the Country which the school/university/institute releasing the certificate belongs to).

Translation

The documents written in a foreign language must be handed in the original copy together with the official translation into Italian; the translation is a responsibility of the applicant and must be certified by the relevant Italian diplomatic representation abroad.
The translation may also be carried out in Italy by official translators or by the diplomatic representation operating in Italy of the Country where the document has been released.
Translations of the "programmes of the university exams" passed, if these are written in English, French, German, Spanish, are not required.

Assessment of the degree qualification

The documentation handed in by the applicant does not allow for a direct access/admission to the Laurea Magistrale (Second cycle degree/Two year Master), as the University must also assess if the degree/diploma/certificate owned by the applicant can qualify for the application.
At the University of Bologna the assessment of the degree qualification is assigned to the relevant Degree Programme Boards, which apply the same criteria (curricular requisites and evaluation of the personal preparation) provided for the holders of the equivalent Italian academic degree.
For applicants having a foreign degree/diploma/certificate, the assessment of the curricular requisites shall include the evaluation of the programmes of the exams passed abroad, which have been attached to the pre-enrolment application.
If the degree/diploma/certificate does not qualify for the admission/access to the Laurea Magistrale (Second cycle degree/Two year Master - 120 ECTS), non-EU citizens - if already in Italy with a short-term stay permit for study reasons - must return to his/her home Country by the end of the stay permit.
The admission to other degree programmes (1st cycle degree programmes) is not allowed, as the terms provided for the enrolment procedures are not always coincident.
