Complete information for those who wish to enrol at the University of Bologna and who want to have periods of study abroad recognised.
A student who is enrolled (or was enrolled) at a foreign University without completing the studies required for the final qualification, may register by asking for those periods of study abroad to be recognised.
The application and relevant documentation, listed below, should be sent or brought directly to the
Student Registry offices for the course the student wishes to enrol for:
- application for registration with a shortened programme of study, addressed to the relevant Student Registry secretary, with an address for correspondences
- the original version of the foreign diploma of secondary higher education (or a replacement certificate) which is valid for University admission in the country in which it was awarded
- an official translation in Italian of the diploma of secondary higher education (or replacement certificate) awarded abroad
- an in loco declaration of value and authentication (except in the case where this is not required under international agreements and conventions) of the diploma of secondary higher education or replacement certificate awarded abroad, obtained from the Italian Embassy-Consulate offices
- the original version of the registration certificate containing details of university examinations, issued by the foreign University
- an official translation in Italian of the registration certificate with details of the university examinations, obtained from and authenticated by the Italian Embassy-Consulate offices
- official study programmes for all courses taken by the student at the foreign University (on official letterhead paper from the foreign University, signed and with the University stamp)
- an official translation in Italian of the official study programmes for courses taken.
NB - EU citizens can self-authenticate their academic qualifications.
The documentation will be examined by a committee of lecturers appointed by the Faculty responsible for the course for which recognition is requested. Depending on the number of credits recognised, the student will be admitted to a determined course year.
The request for recognition of periods of study abroad should be made together with the application for enrolment in a determined course of studies. The procedure is referred to as enrolment with a shortened programme of study. For information about the procedures and deadlines for application, depending on the chosen course of studies, please see the instructions for registration for three-year degree courses, One-long Cycle 2nd Degree Course or 2nd degree courses.
