Italian citizens with foreign academic qualifications

Information for Italian citizens in possession of a foreign academic qualification about University entrance procedures, recognition of academic qualifications and recognition of periods of study completed abroad.

Italian citizens with foreign academic qualifications are admitted to the University under the same conditions as other Italian students. The only difference concerns certification of the foreign academic qualifications.

Foreign academic qualifications possessed by Italian citizens must fulfil the requirements of the Annual memorandum of the Ministry of Education University and Research for foreign academic qualifications, and must be presented together with a Declaration of Value made by an Italian Embassy-Consulate office in the country in which the qualification was awarded.

To enrol on a second cycle degree course a final foreign academic qualification is necessary.  As an alternative, a student can present a post-secondary school qualification from a foreign non-university institute of higher education that gives access to the next level of university studies, but only as long as the secondary education qualification has been obtained after at least 12 years of school attendance.

The Council of the relevant degree course shall check that the qualification is suitable using the same criteria applied for students with an Italian academic qualification.

In the case of admission tests for a course, enrolment is subject to the passing of said tests.

Remaining terms and conditions are the same as those for other Italian citizens.
