Objectives
The main goals of the WhyWeAge workshops are to identify emerging fields of interest for molecular gerontology which could allow great scientific achievements and applications of socio-economic interest and to inform the stakeholders, including the EC, dealing with scientific research via the production of a policy document entitled: 'A road map for molecular gerontology research in Europe'.

Workshop
It will include intense discussion on which research directions in each particular field should be prioritized to obtain maximum benefit within the foreseeable future. We will facilitate discussion of a "brainstorming" nature rather than on a series of scientific workshops aimed at presenting scientific results.
Main questions to be discussed:

  • What are the current and potential themes of research in the field ?
  • What is the current and potential work force in the field in Europe ?
  • How to develop further the current functional networks ?
  • What is the knowledge on biological ageing in each of the topics ?
  • What is the state of the art as for the interactions between medicine, biology & social sciences ?
  • How to facilitate (interdisciplinary) collaborations ?
  • What axes of research need to be developed in the next 10-15 years in Europe ? Why ?
  • What are the priorities considering the different stakeholders ?
  • Who will be the recipients of the progress made considering the different stakeholders (from scientists to socio-economic benefits) ?
