Italian industry, under the coordination of FEDERCHIMICA , and academia, under the guide of Bologna University, on the behalf of CRUI, CNR, ENEA, consortia, associations, funding istitutions for Technology Development and many other stakeholders in the Italian Chemistry Sector.

Italian Industry and Academia have been working closely to form an Italian SusChem platform since the meeting held in Bologna University on March 9th , 2006. The Italian Technology Platform for Sustainable Chemistry will realize, in close collaboration with the European Platform for Sustainable Chemistry (i.e., the ETP-SusChem), the strategic alliance between Italian companies, research and educational Institutions, stakeholders and society to provide solutions to critical societal demands, to boost innovation, strengthen competitiveness and foster effective public-private partnerships in the industrial sectors of the sustainable chemistry, materials technology and industrial biotechnology.
A group of over 25 Italian experts belonging to 15 Universities, several CNR and ENEA centers, different companies, as well as Federchimica and Assobiotec are cooperating at the preparation of a preliminary Vision document and Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) of the IT- SuSChem. The documents has been presented and opened to inplementation during the official platform launch which will take place in Bologna on October 23, 2006. The document defines the strategies in a national perspective to address societal needs, to boost the competitiveness of Italian Chemistry and Biotech industrial Sector, exploit research competences and skills in trans-national research programs and stimulate future national R&D programs to be aligned to the EU level.
