The first part will introduce the major paradigms and studies in the sociology of education, with particular reference to issues such as the relationship between education and society, inequalities in educational opportunities, extraschool education. The second part will focus on adult education activities and their implementation in Italy: basing on data derived from empirical research, we will trace the framework of education programs for adults, their current outcomes - as defined both in terms of demand and of supply.
