Nursing - A.A. 2011/2012
Programme profile
The primary goal of the University is the research, teaching and conveying of scientific knowledge. But knowledge is, first of all, at the service of mankind and its great dignity and a culture that does not absolve this task is an empty knowledge, an end unto itself. The humanitarian professions taught at the University are not different and separate from the mission itself of the University. Contemporary society asks a precise and high complex technical-relational task of nurses, as health care professionals: to be responsible for general nursing services (Ministerial Decree 739/1994). The recognition of the professional autonomy, the possibilities of specialisation and career either in management or in research and in the university world, the creation of a figure of support assisting nurses in the simplest tasks are all expressions of unanimous recognition of the technical-scientific maturity reached by nursing. Learning the nursing profession in these contexts means, therefore, maturing culturally and technically so as to be at the service of mankind's health and above all its dignity.

Based on the article 1, paragraph 1 of law nr. 251 of August 10 2000, graduates in Nursing are health care operators in the area of nursing sciences and midwifery who autonomously carry out professional activities aimed at the prevention, care and protection of the health of individuals and the public in general, by fulfilling the functions identified by the implementing regulations of the relative professions as well as by the specific ethical codes and by utilising planning methods for the objectives of assistance in the development age, in adults and in the elderly. Graduates in Nursing will have an adequate understanding of the basic disciplines, so as to allow them both the best understanding of the most important elements, also in relation to gender, which are at the basis of the physiological and pathological processes to which their preventive and therapeutical interventions are targeted, as well as with the utmost integration with other professions. Furthermore, they will know how to use at least one European language, in addition to Italian, pertaining to the specific sector of competence and for exchanging general information. Achievement of the professional skills is accomplished through a theoretical and practical education, which includes also the acquisition of behavioural skills and achieved through a working context specific for each profile, so as to guarantee, on completion of the course, full command over all the necessary skills and their immediate usability in working environments. As integral and qualifying part of the professional training, special importance is placed on the practical training and clinical internship, carried-out under the monitored supervision and guidance of especially assigned professional tutors, coordinated by a professor with the highest level of education provided for each professional profile and corresponding, whereby existing, to the regulations defined at European level..
